Changes powered by raft of new Ingenium powertrains.

Jaguar Updates F-Pace, XE, XF For 2018

Jaguar has today announced a raft of updates for three of its newest cars for the coming 2018 model year. Improving on Jaguar’s already strong model range, the introduction of new Ingenium petrol engines along with an updated and uprated Ingenium diesel will broaden the appeal of the XF & XE saloons, as well as the fast-selling F-Pace SUV.

A 2.0-litre turbo petrol is one of the stars of this update. Available in 147kW & 184kW states of tune, the Ingenium petrol engines fully utilise Jaguar-Land Rover’s all-aluminium, low-friction nine design to lower weight an raise efficiency. Vehicles with the lesser-powered unit will carry a ‘20t’ badge, while the higher-output cars will carry a ‘25t’ badge.

For diesel fans, there’s now a 177kW 2.0-litre twin-turbo Ingenium diesel. With no less than 500Nm of torque available, Jaguar says that it will deliver the performance one would expect from a Jag “without compromising running costs.” The new diesel gets its performance by upgrading its pistons, crankshaft, and fuel injectors; It’s also the first JLR engine to utilise two turbochargers, which work sequentially to offer strong performance and responsiveness regardless of engine speed. This engine will be deployed in the XF and F-Pace models, and will carry a ‘25d’ badge.

Safety tech has also seen a bump for the three models, which now feature ‘Forward Traffic Detection’ that runs off of the surround-camera hardware. FTD detects objects in the path of the vehicle, and provides the driver with a visual warning should an obstruction be detected. ‘Forward Vehicle Guidance’ also features here, which is a system that provides visual guides to manoeuvre the vehicle when moving forwards in low-speed conditions (like parking). On the salons, ‘Blind Spot Assist’ is tacked onto the existing blind spot monitoring, and will correct the trajectory of the car should a driver attempt to move into the path of a vehicle in an adjacent lane.

The XE and XF also gain things like a new ‘Configurable Dynamics’ suspension setup, with ‘Adaptive Dynamics’ available for cars specified with the adaptive suspension option. Dual View (which allows the central screen to display different graphics to the driver and front passenger simultaneously) is also available on the saloons, as well as a 12.3-inch fully-digital instrument display panel. And to keep occupants comfortable, the front headrests on the XF saloon now gain electric adjustment as well as lateral ‘wings.’
