Momentum is gathering for Jaguar’s remarkable new ‘Ingenium’ engine line.
Jaguar says the direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will be ‘variable’ – meaning they can be installed longitudinally or transverse.
All will share bore, stroke and cylinder spacing measurements.
The all-new high-tech engines are all about fuel-efficiency of course and being clean-sheet designs, Jaguar has been able to implement some high-tech applications such as a massive 17 per-cent cut in internal friction for the upcoming AJ200D 2.0-litre turbo-diesel which is earmarked for the new XE model due next year and tipped to deliver combined-cycle fuel consumption of around 4.2l/100kms.
Jaguar has also achieved significant weight savings – up to 80kgs – and computer management of cooling has been designed for faster warm-ups (cars below operating temperature are massively inefficient in fuel burn).
