Jaguar J-Pace Set For 2021 Debut – Report

Everyone wants a flagship SUV.

Resurgent British luxury marque Jaguar has enjoyed huge successes on the back of their three-strong SUV lineup, with the largest F-Pace taking the crown as the best selling model they’ve had in a long while. The smaller E-Pace is set to cannibalise sales from its cousin, the Range Rover Evoque, while it also steals marketshare from contenders like BMW and Audi. And the I-Pace has set new standards for technological innovation and engineering capability, with the all-electric cat posing a serious threat to the dominance of the Tesla Model X in the electric crossover segment.

Though these three SUVs have all made their debuts fairly recently, Jaguar is not one to rest on its laurels and let it all go by (anymore). Instead, the company intends to bring to market its fourth SUV, the larger Jaguar J-Pace, by 2021, or so says Autocar.

The Jaguar J-Pace, being a bigger car, will rival SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport when it arrives. And as has Jaguar’s shown with the E-, I-, and F-Pace, the J-Pace should also offer a dynamic, and engaging experience behind the wheel, something that should get cars like the BMW X5 (as well as the two aforementioned contenders) rather worried.

As Jaguar has previously stated its commitment to offer an electrified version of every model it has by 2020, the J-Pace is expected to arrive with a plug-in hybrid powertrain, using know-how learnt during the development of the I-Pace, as well as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport PHEVs. The J-Pace will be critical to seeing Jaguar’s success continue to grow, as the SUV infatuation that the world has come over with is not set to wane anytime soon.

Despite traditionally leaving the muddy all-terrain stuff to sister-brand Land Rover, Jaguar’s carving out quite a niche for itself, offering SUVs that underline the ‘Sport’ part of the equation. We still worry about market cannibalisation between the two brands but really, it’s commendable how well-defined the two brands are despite their shared territory. The J-Pace should continue that trend, taking tips from the established Range Rover but ultimately doing things its own way.
