We still can’t make sense of their SUV names, either.
With Jaguar riding a wave of success since the introduction of its F-Pace SUV (billed as Coventry’s fastest-selling model in history), the British luxury marque is surging ahead with its plans to bring a full-electric SUV to market in the near future. Dubbed the I-Pace, it was previewed in concept form last November, with market debut expected next year. And aligned with that timeline, it seems that Jaguar’s preparing the new EV SUV with some glitzy video shoots.
Spotted on the Monaco F1 circuit in the middle of the night, the production-ready I-Pace (or at least, it looks production-ready) was spied undisguised going back and forth around the Mirabeau Bas corner, with camera equipment spotted in some shots. Undoubtedly filming at night to accentuate the dramatic lines of the I-Pace (as well as avoid shutterbugs), the electric SUV failed to evade the paparazzi.
What we can glean from the video is that the I-Pace appears to retain the concept vehicles’ looks almost entirely, replete with massive wheels that make it look particularly menacing. It’s almost a shame that the athletic physique of the I-Pace won’t be accompanied by the rorty soundtrack of an internal combustion engine, as propulsion for this SUV will come from a pair of electric motors. On the concept car, the I-Pace managed almost 300kW & 700Nm from the setup, with charge coming from a 90kWh battery. 482km range was claimed on a single charge, though we’d like to see how this translates into the production model.
You can read more on the I-Pace concept here, and learn more about the car that Ian Callum, Jaguar’s design director, calls “the most important car since the E-Type.” The I-Pace will revolutionise the future of the brand, as it levels itself against other EV-SUVs like the Tesla Model X, and potentially the Faraday Future FF91 (if it ever makes it).
