What the hell is the ‘Icona Ferrari’?
Italian supercar marque Ferrari appears to be prepping a new model to join the lineup, and the company decided to reveal that little tidbit of information on a private part of their website that’s open only to owners.
The sole image features a very, very vague sketch of a vehicle, with the words ‘Icona Ferrari’ across it. The image also features where the Icona (?) will launch, in Maranello, and the date: September 17th.
That date is important because that’s the same date as Ferrari’s next Capital Markets Day, which is when the new Ferrari CEO Louis Camilleri will talk about Ferrari’s next five years and his plans for the brand.
Also interesting is that the image file, caught by Autocar, is titled ‘Ferrari F176.’ Some 70-years ago, Ferrari launched a model called the 166 Inter, which was a V12 front-engined long-legged grand-tourer; This is key because there are rumours circulating that the ‘F176/Icona’ is some kind of special-edition model based off the 812 Superfast.
The upcoming Ferrari Capital Markets Day will be the first since Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne’s passing late last month. New CEO Camilleri had said soon after his appointment that Marchionne’s targets for the Maranello brand were ‘aspirational,’ but has the full intention of trying to achieve them.
