Nissan’s luxury brand Infiniti (due for re-launch in Australia this year) lifted the covers from two new models in Detroit – the JX crossover and IPL G convertible.
The Infiniti JX is a full-size crossover with three rows of seats and lots of interior space. Infiniti has used the JX’s abundant interior room very cleverly with an innovative design for the second row seats which provides for access to the third row without requiring any child seats to be removed.
Very nicely styled and boasting the hallmark Infiniti luxury inside, the Infiniti JX goes on-sale in North America in a few months.
Available in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive, the Infiniti JX is powered by Nissan’s 197kW, 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine and drives through a continuously variable (CVT) transmission.
Among the Infiniti JX’s smart technology is a new ‘Backup Collision Intervention’ system which (when reverse gear is selected) detects any obstacles moving behind and if necessary automatically engages the brakes.
The Infiniti IPL G convertible is the second model in the Infiniti Performance Line and also hits North American dealerships in a few months.
Based on the current Infiniti G37 convertible, the IPL G runs sporty exterior enhancements including a new front bumper and fascia, sculptured side sills and stylish graphite finish, seven-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside are leather sports seats trimmed in either stone or red colours, a red leather steering wheel and Silk Obi aluminium trim.
Under the bonnet is Nissan’s VQ37HR 3.7-litre V6 petrol engine with 255kW/370Nm on-tap (both up on the standard G37). Drive is via a seven-speed automatic transmission with downshift throttle blipping.
The Infiniti ILP G convertible also scores uprated sports suspension and brakes.
