Nissan’s stunning GT-R supercar receives substantial improvements for the 2011 model due on-sale in Australia next march.
Nissan says every area of the GT-R has been carefully rethought or retuned for the MY11 model.
Headline news is a boost in engine output – the twin-turbo V6 has shed 10 kilos and power is up to 390kW at 6,400rpm. Torque boosted to 612Nm. These changes stem from more turbocharger boost plus exhaust and inlet changes.
Fuel consumption improves – down to 12.0l/100kms. Exhaust emissions are cleaner too – thanks to an ultra-low precious metal catalyst an revised ECM.
Externally, two new paint colours are available – Jet Black and GT Blue. The 2011 Nissan GT-R also scores new, lighter Rays alloy wheels, finished in five-layers of Hyper Blue Black Chrome and designed avoid tyre deviation/rotation in response to the extra engine output and improve vertical load responsiveness.
Aerodynamics are improved with 10 per cent more downforce at the front and a reduction in drag to 0.26cD. These improvements come from a new front bumper with double rectifier fins plus a new rear bumper and underbody diffuser.
Under the bonnet, substantial improvements in chassis stiffness are derived from a carbon composite/aluminium honeycomb strut tower brace and a new support member in the left side of the instrument panel.
On the suspension front, front castor angle has increased to six degrees, the rear roll center height has been lowered, there are new aluminium-free piston dampers and larger brake rotors.
Inside the new GT-R boasts new trim finishes and seats.
Nissan Australia will announce local pricing and details closer to next March’s on-sale date.
