Hyundai Australia has recently introduced the Venue, and no it isn’t some trendy millennial nightclub but possibly one of the cheapest SUV’s to go on sale here with prices starting from $19,990 (MLP).

The Venue replaces the Kona as the smallest SUV in the family and the Accent in terms of pricing. However, the Korean automaker packages every guise with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto displayed via an 8-inch touchscreen and of course a reverse camera.

There’s more. All versions of the Venue come bundled with the brand’s SmartSense safety suite. The array incorporates the likes of Forward Collision Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, High Beam Assist and Tyre-Pressure Monitoring amongst others.

Additionally, the base model comes with dusk-sensing headlights, Hill Assist, Cruise Control and six airbags. The Active receives LED Daytime Running Lights, alloy wheels, folding wing mirrors as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob. Meanwhile, the range topping Elite gets Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Collision System along with Sat-Nav and LED headlights.

Propelling all grades is a 1.6-litre Gamma mill that delivers 90kW of power and 151Nm of torque. The company hasn’t put out official fuel consumption figures at time of press, however the four-cylinder engine will receive automatic or manual gearbox options - each with six ratios, though the Elite only ships with an automatic.

Hyundai says that while they’ve tuned the engine for more low-end grunt and increased drivability, the suspension too has been fettled to the same effect with the goal of handling like a bigger SUV.

Visually, the Venue features the brand’s cascading grille design along with headlights akin to its siblings - the Kona and Santa Fe, while customers opting for the Elite flavour get 17-inch wheels and a two-tone roof. On the inside, 355-litres of luggage room check the box for practicality.
