As Hyundai prepares to launch the regular Veloster three-door coupe in Australia, the racy turbocharged version has been unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show.
With its twin-scroll turbocharged version of Hyundai’s 1.6-litre direct injection four-cylinder, the Veloster turbo delivers 150kW at 6000rpm and 264Nm from 1750rpm. Drive is via six-speed automatic and manual transmissions with steering wheel paddle shifters (the auto’s ratios are narrower than the regular Veloster).
Externally, the turbocharged Veloster differs from its naturally-aspirated sibling via twin exhaust pipes (the regular model has a single trapezoidal centre exhaust), a larger front grille, side skirts, a new rear bumper with diffusers, unique 18-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights with LEDs and LED tail-lights. Inside is revised instrumentation and leather seats.
Hyundai Australia is currently finalizing local timing, specifications and pricing for the Veloster turbo.
