With 2018 looming, Hyundai has thought it prudent to update and upgrade its big Santa Fe family SUV for the new model year, and has fitted an impressive amount of standard kit across the range to further the big Korean’s value proposition, all without affecting the existing retail prices. As such, the Santa Fe family will soldier into 2018 as below:

  • Santa Fe ActiveX 3.3 MPi FWD – $40,990
  • Santa Fe Active 2.4 GDi AWD – $41,850
  • Santa Fe Active 2.2 CRDi AWD – $44,850
  • Santa Fe Elite 2.2 CRDi AWD – $51,990
  • Santa Fe Highlander 2.2 CRDi AWD – $57,090

The manual-transmission Active variant has been culled from the lineup, which now puts the ActiveX as the entry-level variant. It’s not wanting for safety kit as it used to though, with all variants now getting things like autonomous emergency braking (AEB), collision warning, lane-departure warning and lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and intelligent cruise control, all features that were once exclusive to the range-topping Santa Fe Highlander.

The Active and ActiveX also gain things like a 4.2-inch active driver information display nestled between the dials, in place of the tiny monochromatic unit that used to live there. They also gain an electronic parking brake, automatically dimming rear view mirror, side mirrors that house puddle lights and also fold electrically. Elite and Highlander models have also been upgraded with an 8.0-inch infotainment display system replete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an update that we’re sure is being heartily welcomed by anyone considering the Santa Fe.

Drivetrain choices remain unchanged, with 2.4-litre and 3.3-litre petrol engines (all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive respectively) and a sole 2.2-litre CRDi turbodiesel continuing to provide motivation to the Santa Fe range. Regardless of driven wheels, all variants use a slick-shifting 6-speed automatic to put the power down. Options for Santa Fes include metallic paint, beige/brown cabin treatments, and a panoramic sunroof reserved for Elite variants.

With better value backed by lifetime service plans and an impressive 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty, we have little doubt that the Hyundai Santa Fe will continue to be the choice of many, even in this increasingly-competitive segment.
