Hyundai Motor Company Australia (HMCA) has thrown some sporty kit that their hot i30, the Series II SR in hopes of further piquing buyer interest towards what is currently Australia’s best-selling car model.
While the i30 SR’s base ingredients remain the same, with the 124kW/201Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine providing grunt to the front wheels with either six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic in between.
Hyundai has instead dressed the updated i30 SR with other niceties that bring more value to the warm hatch, there most noticeable being the new set 17-inch grey-metallic wheels that wear 225-45R17 tyres, which should go well with the Australian-tuned suspension. The wheels and the a new ‘Phoenix Orange’ paint finish are unique to the SR range.
Stepping inside, Hyundai wanted to give owners a sportier feel from the get-go. The i30 SR’s updated cabin features standard black leather upholstery paired with contrasting red highlights throughout. Dark grey interior trim also replaces the bits that were previously finished in a lighter silver.
The front sports bucket seats now have thicker side bolsters, there’s new black headlining, cloth-covered A-pillar trim, and standard paddle shifters for units with an automatic transmission. A panoramic sunroof that continues to be a standard feature on the i30 SR Premium can now be optioned individually for the SR for an extra $2,000.
An omission to the i30 SR is standard-fit satellite navigation. To make up for it, though, buyers can plug in their smartphone via added support for Apple CarPlay. Both have an identical 7.0-inch central touchscreen. Oddly, the SR Premium does retain built-in satellite navigation but does not have support for Apple CarPlay.
Excluding on-road costs, Hyundai is pricing the updated i30 SR at $26,550 for the manual and $28,850 for the automatic. The SR Premium, however, goes for $31,250 for the manual and $33,550 for the automatic.
