Hyundai Teases Next-Generation i30

Hyundai is in the final stages of development for its all-new third-generation i30, and with being a popular car in nearly every market it’s sold in, there’s naturally some deal of anticipation for the Korean hatch.

The Korean marque will be having the full reveal of the new i30 in Europe on September 7th, but with that date just under a month away, they’ve released some appropriately shadowy teaser images to entice us.

There isn’t much to discern, if we’re honest, from these dark images of the i30 - design, developed, and tested in Europe. The new front fascia does look more sophisticated with its sharper eyes and vertical diagonal LED daytime running lights. The headlamps have also undergone changes with three separate illuminators, flanking a grille that looks a little reminiscent of Infiniti at certain angles.

The rear of the car looks more compressed and thus sportier compared than the outgoing model. It’s a move that Peugeot pulled with to similar effect with the second generation 308 (T9), with the tail lamps and lower reflectors brought closer together and rear windscreen losing some vertical surface area as well.

On the design of the car, Hyundai’s design chief Peter Schreyer said: “It’s a car for everybody - for the design of the Next Generation Hyundai i30, we didn’t just look at one customer, we focused on a wide range of different people. The design is an evolution of Hyundai Motor’s design language with natural flowing lines, refined surfaces and a sculpted body to create a timeless appearance. With the Next Generation i30, we are introducing our further developed grille: the Cascading grille.”

No concrete details have been disclosed yet about the next i30’s drivetrain but we expect Hyundai to include more tech features and material upgrades while carrying over a similar, if not evolutionarily updated, spread of engines and transmissions.
