Fuel Cell vehicles run on hydrogen instead of petrol end the only exhaust emissions are water.

This production capacity has enabled Hyundai Australia to order an ix35 Fuel Cell through the regular channels via which it orders every Hyundai which comes to Australia.

The first example has now arrived as the preliminary work begins on Hyundai’s plans to run a fleet of ix35 Fuel Cell test vehicles in Australia.

Hyundai has begun installation of Australia’s only Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) at its Macquarie Park, Sydney HQ – partnering with gas supplier Coregas Australia. The HRS being installed by American company Air Products surpasses all legal and safety requirements and will be operational early in the new year.

Hyundai Australia is keen on the idea of ‘Hydrogen Highway’s like those already established in Europe and North America – built in partnership with government and private enterprises – some of which are entirely green as they produce their hydrogen using solar energy and electrolysers.

Hyundai Australia in partnership with Sefca will build also build an electrolyser at its Sydney HQ so it can be self-sustainable in its production of hydrogen.

The systems in North American and Europe allow a full re-fill in about three minutes – much the same time as it takes to fill the fuel tank of your normal petrol or diesel or passenger car.

Hyundai Australia continues to liaise with all levels of government to advance the case for hydrogen vehicles in Australia.
