Hyundai will liven up the mid-side wagon market segment with the good looking i40 Tourer now on sale and priced from $32,490.
Another product from Hyundai’s European styling studio in Russelsheim – Germany, the Hyundai i40 Tourer looks great on-road and employs two new Hyundai engines – a 2.0-litre petrol and 1.7-litre diesel.
The i40 Tourer follows Hyundai’s usual model grades – entry level Active, mid range Elite and range topping Premium.
Specification levels are impressive with Premium models featuring a rear-view camera, adaptive front headlights, heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats. All models come with nine airbags and a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
Looks are distinctive, modern and European with “eagle-eye” headlights and prominent bonnet character lines.
Inside are brushed aluminum and piano black trim highlights (depending on the model ) ambient lighting and one-touch power windows, front and rear. Premium models gain an interesting three-piece panoramic glass sunroof, with a “cinema-curtain” to keep the light out.
The rear seats split fold 60/40, and cargo capacity is 553 litres or 1719 litres (rear seats folded). Under the bonnet, is a 2.0-litre petrol engine from Hyundai’s Nu engine family with direct injection. Maximum power is 130kW @ 6500rpm and peak torque is 213Nm @ 4700 rpm.
The four cylinder, 1.7-litre turbo diesel is from Hyundai’s U-11 family. Maximum power is 100kW @ 4000rpm and peak torque is 330Nm (manual) or 230nM automatic. Drive is to the front wheels via six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
Hyundai claims best-in-class fuel consumption for the i40 Tourer diesel manual at 4.7l/100km.
Underneath is a MacPherson strut front suspension, and multi-link rear with cornering brake control (CBC). Once again Hyundai fine tuned the i40 Tourer’s suspension and steering during extensive Australian testing.
