While Hyundai Australia will launch the wagon version of the i40 late this year, the sedan version – to debut at the Barcelona Motor Show – is still being evaluated for local sales.
Clear from the first image, the Hyundai i40 is another chapter in the Korean company’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ design theme which highlights vehicles such as the i45 and ix35. The new sedan is totally European – designed and engineered at Hyundai’s R&D facility in Russelsheim, Germany.
“We wanted to move away from the typical three-box sedan and create a car that was in keeping with the sporty nature of the i40 wagon,” explained Hyundai Motor Europe chief designer Thomas Burkle.
Currently Hyundai is scheduled to launch the i40 wagon late this year and is working with its parent company to determine whether the good-looking sedan will join the local lineup.
