Hyundai Australia has announced today that the Hyundai i20 will be not be sold in Australia from the end of next month.
At the launch for the new Hyundai Tucson, Hyundai confirmed that the costs of bringing the European sourced i20 or i10 to Australia was just too expensive.
With the falling Australian dollar and the logistics costs the numbers just don’t stack up to import the new models.
Speaking to CarShowroom.com.au John Elsworth Chief Operating Office Hyundai Australia said “We simply have not been able to come to an acceptable commercial arrangement with our European counterparts”
Instead of the new models Hyundai Australia will reposition the Hyundai Accent sedan and hatch as its only light car on offer.
The new Hyundai Accent line up will be:
Accent $14,990 powered by a 1.4 litre engine
Accent SR $16,990 SR powered by 1.6 litre engine
6-Speed CVT + $2,000
Hyundai Australia believe that with the Accent having power windows, touch screen infotainment, 6 airbags, lifetime service plan and 10 year roadside assist it will have no troubles replacing the i20.
