A Hyundai i20 has driven 1269 kms from Sydney to the Queensland town of Bundaberg on one tank of fuel, posting the remarkable average fuel consumption of 4.23l/100kms.
Former Australian Rally Champion Ed Ordynski was at the wheel of the 1.4-litre Hyundai i20 Active model which was totally standard – no aerodynamic or mechanical enhancements to reduce its fuel consumption.
And the route was the notorious Pacific Highway, clogged – as usual – with school holiday traffic, road works and slow-moving caravans. So it was real-world driving conditions (no coasting down hills etc) - Ordynski just drove smoothly and as efficiently as possible.
The Hyundai consumed just 53.63 litres of fuel in the journey from Sydney to Bundaberg – a remarkable endorsement of Hyundai’s world-class engineering and Ordynski’s sensible driving.
