Hyundai goes Sporty

Riding on a wave of success in North America, Hyundai has revealed the all-new Genesis coupe, a nicely styled and well-specified sports car.

The coupe is now on sale in North America where its sedan brother won the North American Car of The Year award.

At the Melbourne Motor Show, Hyundai displayed the range-topping RS (Racing Sport) derivative and it certainly looks impressive.

Power comes from an alloy DOHC 3.8-litre V6 which delivers 231kW and 361Nm.

Exterior styling is very sharp and contemporary with the modern wedge profile, high waistline and sculptured rear end – all very well executed by Hyundai’s Californian design studios.

Inside it’s similarly slick look with excellent sports seats and instrumentation, and an eight-speaker Infinity sound system with USB/iPod connectivity. Rear seats fold flat easily and quickly with either a lever in the cabin or push-button in the boot – a nice convenience feature.

Performance and driving dynamics should be good and the Brembo braking system adds a nice touch to the appearance…and should stop the Genesis very efficiently.

In the US market, the Genesis goes head-to-head with Nissan’s 350Z.
