Hyundai’s ‘Intrado’ – a hydrogen fuelled concept SUV – debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show and is the first Hyundai vehicle to be designed by German guru Peter Schreyer since he took the helm of Hyundai design as well as Kia.
As well as the hydrogen powertrain, the lightweight SUV makes extensive use of carbon fibre even in structural elements.
Hyundai says the Intrado is a vision of future eco-friendly vehicles and its look comes from harnessing airflow to create a more efficient form – ‘Intrado’ is actually the name of the underside of aircraft wings which create lift.
It’s purposeful on the outside and inside as well with functionality the key (if it’s not relevant to buyers it was discarded). So the interior sees a lightweight frame of an advanced mix of materials onto which everything is secured – no wasted ‘add-ons’.
The zero-emission fuel cell drivetrain centres on a 36kW lithium-ion battery.
