Today, Hyundai has welcomed a new addition to its award-winning Santa Fe lineup. Dubbed the ‘Active X,’ the new variant is aimed at customers who might not need all-wheel drive capability but want the space and practicality a large SUV like the Santa Fe offers.

With prices starting at a hair under $41,000, the Santa Fe Active X employs the brands’ all-aluminium 3.3-litre multipoint-injection petrol V6 engine that kicks out 199kW & 318Nm. Power goes to the front wheels via an in-house six-speed automatic gearbox, to standard-fit 19-inch dark grey alloy wheels. Other exterior embellishments for the Active X include rear privacy glass and chrome exterior door handles.

The inside of the Santa Fe Active X “combines space, luxury, and practicality in equal measure,” with things like leather trim, three-stage heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, 7-inch infotainment system (with smartphone mirroring) and a cooled glovebox coming as standard. There’s also a tyre-pressure monitoring system out of the High Line variants. This builds on to the already-impressive list of standard kit for the Santa Fe, which include a rear-view camera, rear parking-assist system, 3.5-inch monochrome driver information display, and cruse control.

And like any good family wagon, this 7-seater large SUV packs all the usual safety kit. There are seven airbags dotted through the cabin, electronic stability, traction, and brake-distribution, vehicle stability management, brake assist, and hill-start assist among others. There are automatic headlights and wipers, Bluetooth connectivity, LED daytime running lights, and sharp projector-beam headlights here too, making the Santa Fe Active X truly great value.

“For buyers who don’t need all-wheel drive, the Active X is a capable and exceptionally well-equipped large SUV for under $41,000. And that’s big news in one of Australia’s most popular market segments,” said Scott Grand, Hyundai Australia’s chief operating officer. The Santa Fe Active X gets the usual 5-year/unlimited mileage warranty from the manufacturer, as well as a capped-price ‘Lifetime Service Plan.’
