The updated Porsche Cayenne range – boasting better performance, enhanced comfort and great fuel-efficiency – has been launched in the Northern Hemisphere.
Porsche says the model lineup will be: Cayenne Diesel, Cayenne S, Cayenne Turbo and Cayenne S E-Hybrid – the world’s first plug-in hybrid premium SUV.
Launch of the Cayenne S E-Hybrid (a 3.0-litre supercharged V6 with Porsche’s complex hybrid system) means Porsche is the only manufacturer to currently offer three plug-in hybrid models (the others are the Panamera S E-Hybrid and the 918 Spyder).
A derivative of the Audi Q7 and Volkswagen Touareg, the Cayenne has been the lynchpin in Porsche’s massive sales growth with nearly 600,000 sold over two generations since its debut in 2002.
The updated model sees a new, sharper front-end (new front fenders and bonnet) and airblades ducting cool air to the turbocharger intercoolers.
At the rear, the look is all-new with a new tailgate, lights and rear fascia.
Inside is a new steering wheel with standard paddle shifters (the design borrowed from the 918 Spyder) and extra comfort with new seats for second-row passengers.
Under the bonnet are active air flaps for improved aerodynamics and fuel efficiency and Porsche says across the range power and torque has been boosted.
Underneath is a re-tuned suspension set-up with enhanced dynamics in both comfort and sports modes.
