1,000km range being touted, too.

2018 Hybrid Kinetic H500 Concept – Beijing Auto Show

Hong Kong-based automotive firm Hybrid Kinetic may not yet have any of their models on the road just yet, but it’s showing little to no indication that it’s slowing down anytime soon. In fact, in addition to the H600 saloon, GT, K550 SUV, and K750… bigger SUV, they’ve now begun teasing this new, smaller H500 saloon ahead of its official unveiling at the Beijing motor show.

Like the name suggests, the H500 is smaller than the H600, though both cars will share the same powertrain technology. Expect to find a Pininfarina-designed body hiding a micro-turbine range-extender electric powertrain beneath, which is expected to offer a whopping 1,000km range (between range-extension and battery charge).

Teasers show that the H500 will sport a rather unique roofline, undoubtedly conceptualised to maximise rear space, a priority for the Chinese market. As a result, the roof meets the shoulder line far later than on conventional cars, and is reminiscent of things like the BMW 3-Series GT (which also looks rather odd).

On the inside, the H500 is a tad more distinctive, showing off two fully-digital interfaces, with one ahead of the driver (and stretching into the centre stack, likely doubling as an infotainment screen), and one towards the centre armrest, where there lives an angled ‘command centre’ kind of unit.

And as if that isn’t enough, there also appears to be another screen, narrower this time, stretching from the front door panels all the way across. We can’t imagine just what information would need to be displayed quite this way (and what would have to be displayed all the time), but we admit that it looks pretty cool.

This will mark the fifth concept car from the Hybrid Kinetic group, though the previously shown pair of SUVs and the bigger saloon are all slated for production beginning later this year. Perhaps the H500 will start rolling off the line around about the same time too… and that would give the Tesla Model 3 a right headache.

Stay tuned to CarShowroom for more updates as they come.
