Created in Melbourne by Toyota Style Australia under the watchful eye of local automotive design guru, Paul Beranger, the HC-CV hybrid Camry concept provides a window into the minds of the local Toyota team toiling to have the production hybrid Camry ready for production before the end of this year.
While the radical lines and paintwork of the concept are eye-catching for motor show display, Toyota is adamant some key design features of the HC-CV will play a role in the production vehicle.
The hybrid Camry uses a four-cylinder petrol engine linked to a powerful electric motor. Toyota says that as well as delivering better fuel economy, it is more powerful than a conventional petrol engine.
Prius Keeps Getting Better. The third-generation Toyota Prius goes on sale in July and takes the hybrid concept into a new league. Toyota says 90 per ent of the Hybrid Synergy Drive is new on the latest model.
Improvements are impressive.
For starters, the new Prius will be the first car sold in Australia with co2 emissions below 100 grams per kilometre while still delivering 20 per cent more power and sharper acceleration.
Remarkably, fuel consumption is also 10 per cent better.
Roof-mounted solar panels power a ventilation system and even plant-based foam has been incorporated in seat cushions and other areas.
The company says the new Prius will be the first Toyota to offer dynamic radar cruise control with a pre-collision system, intelligent parking assist and a completely belt-less engine.
Interior space – already one of the most impressive aspects of the Prius – has been increased.
