EVs part of greater plan to push into the future.

Honda has confirmed to the media that it is currently developing no less than two fully-electric vehicles that are slated for sale in 2018. CEO Takahiro Hachigo said in a press conference that the company is working full-steam on two electric cars that are expected to hit the market sooner rather than later.

One of these EVs is being developed with a centric focus on China, while the other will be geared toward global markets. The former will capitalise on Chinese government incentives in order to control its pollution rates, while the latter will be designed and engineered to comply with and fulfil broader requirements of various markets around the world.

While it’s being bandied about that these cars will make their debut sometime this year, it’s so far unclear as to whether or not they’ll be making their appearances in concept or production form. Regardless of when they appear, they will join the existing Honda Clarity EV in the marque’s range, which should see further additions if Honda intends to realise its expectations of seeing more than half of its sales to come from electrified vehicles.

Honda’s EV game appears to have begun on the back foot however, with its recently-launched Clarity electric vehicle packing less range and available performance from other EV players like the Nissan Leaf and Chevrolet Bolt. While the fully-electric Honda Clarity will only be sold in a handful of US states, the plug-in hybrid variant is expected to rack up the most sales for the Clarity nameplate.
