Honda’s ‘Sensing’ Active Safety Suite To Be Range-Wide

Here’s some good news: Honda Australia has officially announced that the company’s Sensing suite of active safety features will be made standard across all cars big and small, expensive or less so, all over the country. That is, pertaining to their next generation of vehicles.

The decision to equip all next-gen models with the more comprehensive safety package as standard was arrived at after Honda commissioned a survey of new car buyers interested in a purchase within the next 2 years, wherein over 1,200 respondents showed that “there is a significant opportunity and need to educate the market on the importance and benefit of crash prevention technology.”

Basically, while the familiarity and understanding of terms such as airbags, seatbelt, and anti-lock brakes were satisfactorily widespread, the same could not be said about the median level of literacy with regard to the more modern set of safety features.

Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins, said: “Australian new car buyers are becoming increasingly aware of the latest safety technology in vehicles across the board but there is confusion on how they work. Honda is committed to bringing cars to the Australian market that are as competitively priced and value-packed as possible, and having the very best in safety technology is one of our highest priorities.”

“Honda is well known for its excellence in engineering and while we are not first to market with this technology, we strive to ensure we are best to market. I’m confident that our Honda Sensing package will provide Australian consumers with a system that is intuitive and effective in its role of driver assistance,” he said.

‘Sensing’ is a blanket term Honda uses to package multiple driver-assist features to help the driver actively avert potential accidents, employing a wide array of sensors and computer software to detect an imminent collision or potentially dangerous outcome and take action to either warn said driver or take action independently.

In addition to Autonomous Emergency Braking (or Collision Mitigation Braking System in Honda-speak), Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Road Departure Mitigation, the suite also includes convenience features like Adaptive Cruise Control and Low Speed Follow.

Right now, the Honda Sensing is reserved for the brand’s pricier offerings such as the top-spec Civic, CR-V, and Odyssey. However, this will conceivably expanded to include cars such as the HR-V, City, and Jazz.
