Launching the all-new Honda CRZ sports car last week, Honda Australia’s Stephen Collins confirmed a diesel powerplant would be added to the new Civic lineup in 2013.
That picture became clearer at the Tokyo Motor Show when Honda revealed its new 1.6-litre diesel engine.
Maximum power is 88kW at 4000rpm and peak torque is an impressive 300Nm from 2000rpm.
Part of Honda’s new ‘Earth Dreams Technology’ - where the company plans to offer the best fuel consumption in each category in which it competes by 2015 – the new 1.6-litre diesel has been designed with European customers in mind and will first appear in EU markets late next year.
Honda’s ‘Earth Dreams Technology’ powerplants will be rolled out throughout the range.
