Honda has followed Mazda by reducing the cost of all imported cars before the official tariff reduction on the 1st January 2010. Stephen Collins Honda Australia’s General Manager Sales & Marketing said ”We are pleased to pass on these savings on award winning models such as the Accord Euro and Odyssey to our customers a month early,”
Honda Australia decided to start passing on the import duty savings on many of its popular models to new car buyers on the 1st December. This is 30 days ahead of the Federal Government’s tariff reduction on imported passenger cars from 10 to 5 per cent scheduled for January 1st 2010.
This will result in savings of between $1,500 and $3,000 on Japanese and UK sourced models.
The Honda City light sedan has been re-positioned, now starting at $19,490 for the VTi manual which translates to a $1000 saving for new car buyers.
Honda’s Thai built models are ineligible for the duty decrease, due to the existing Free Trade Agreement between Australia and Thailand.
Four-wheel drive vehicles are currently subject to an import duty of five percent and will not receive any further reductions.
