Honda performance specialist Mugen has announced a limited-edition 2.2-litre version of its Honda Civic Type R Mugen for European customers.
The Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 is a development of a similar vehicle launched last year with a re-worked 2.0-litre engine. Good news for owners of the existing cars is that Mugen is considering offering those enthusiasts the opportunity to upgrade their engines.
While Honda Japan has ceased production of the acclaimed K20 petrol engine, Mugen has developed hand-built versions with revised cylinder bores and stroke, lifting capacity to 2,155cc. Maximum power is boosted to 191kW and torque is 240Nm (both 30 per cent up on the standard Honda Civic Type R).
The Honda Civic Type R Mugen 2.2 also gains a sports bodykit, uprated brakes and sports suspension.
“Environmental pressures mean naturally aspirated engines are rapidly becoming superseded by other engine architectures and technologies. We may never see the like of the K20 in a mainstream production car again, so felt it only fitting we mark the occasion with this special 2.2 version of the Honda Civic Type R,” revealed Mugen Euro Vice President Hiro Toyoda.
Sadly Aussie Honda fans can only dream about this sensational limited edition Type R.
