Honda is celebrating its 50th year, their golden jubilee, serving the Australian market, and has chosen to commemorate the occasion by unveiling a range of one-off gold coloured machines ranging from a lawnmower and portable generator to the Civic Type R and NSX hybrid supercar.
Though Honda products were already in use throughout Australia and the world at large through smaller importers and distributors, the company made its local establishment in earnest on February 4th 1969 when the Honda Motor Company sent Hidehiko Shiomi to set up an unified, national-level presence in Melbourne.
“Honda Australia was a Honda subsidiary set up primarily to sell cars, but it has since grown with the global Honda brand to deliver a wide range of products and services that help make people’s lives more enjoyable,” said Honda Australia Managing Director & CEO, Mr. Hiroyuki Shimizu
“We thought about how we could celebrate our birthday and our unique diversity in a bold and fun way. I mean, who has ever seen a golden mower or generator before?”
“To Honda, performance means more than speed – each product is designed to perform at a level that exceeds the expectations of the customer. We’re looking forward to showcasing these amazing golden products around the country throughout 2019, so stay tuned for more information on that front,” added Mr Shimizu.
To be honest, the gold coloured treatment to Honda’s performance cars and bikes are rather fetching, and we wonder if Honda will ever consider offering the colour, albeit altered to not be so very bling, to buyers at the point of purchase.
There’s no word if Honda intends to sell these gold coloured cars to a avid collector or keep it for their private reserve, though we’d wager that a plan to divert the proceeds of a possible auction to charity would be the most graceful departure. Honda did also say that “everyone who’s seen it wants one”, but in reference to the EU22i Generator.
