Toyota was again the dominant market leader with 17,889 sales for the month.

For the three quarters of 2014 which ended on 30 September, Toyota accounted for 18.1 per-cent of total Australian new vehicle sales with 151,109 vehicles sold.

Mazda was second in September with sales of 9,500 vehicles which also pushed the Japanese marque ahead of Hyundai in the race to be Australia’s best-selling full-line import brand (Mazda sold 76,987 vehicles in the first three quarters of this year to 75,353 for Hyundai).

Hyundai was third in September with sales of 8,804 vehicles.

Despite only ranking fourth in September with total sales of 8,551 vehicles, Holden was still comfortably second for the three quarters which ended in September with sales of 82,949 – actually marginally ahead of this time last year when ‘The General’ has racked-up sales of 81,904.

Ford was fifth in September with sales of 6,227 vehicles and is fifth year-to-date with sales of 61,587 vehicles.

Market leader Toyota reported a surge in demand for its products of more than 2.2 per-cent in September compared to September ’14 and says the strong first month of Spring could be a launching pad for the industry to round-out the year strongly.

“All indicators are for a strong fourth quarter with substantial emphasis on the SUV growth market and key passenger vehicle segments,” revealed Toyota Australia sales boss Scott Thompson.
