It’s official – Holden has a new mid-size sedan heading ‘Downunder’ (well the Epica hasn’t set the world on fire) and it’s a Chevrolet.
In fact, Holden’s newcomer will be the all-new Chevrolet Malibu, scheduled for global debut later this month at the New York International Auto Show.
The new Malibu is massively important for General Motors as it’s the first Chevrolet mid-sizer designed for the global market and will be sold in over 100 countries including North America, Europe, South America, Asia and Africa.
Locally, the Holden Malibu will be powered by a range of fuel-efficient, four-cylinder engines.
Car Showroom reckons Holden is on winner with the Malibu. We’ve driven the current generation Chevrolet Malibu in California and Florida and it genuinely provides the abundant interior space Australian motorists demand – the all-new model should be even better.
Spy photos reveal the all-new Chevrolet Malibu is also a step-up in the looks department over the current model.
Good looks, great interior space and the new technology now demanded by American sedan buyers all add up to a Holden Malibu which Australians will embrace (unlike the Korean Epica).
“Malibu will bridge the gap between our incredibly successful Cruze small car and Australia’s favourite car, the best-selling Commodore,” explained Holden Chairman Mike Devereux. “It will be a standout on the road, with striking styling in the same vein as recent additions to the GM portfolio, including the new-generation Barina and Cruze hatch.”
“Like the Holden Cruze, Malibu will surprise customers with its array of clever technologies and features,” Mr Devereux added.
