Nismo is to Nissan what AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and M is to BMW – the high-performance division.
And Nissan has ramped-up Nismo with a new purpose-built headquarters in Yokohama, Japan and confirmation of the GT-R Nismo and 370Z Nismo models to join the already revealed Juke Nismo. Unfortunately at this stage the 370Z Nismo is only for Europe.
“Nismo will bring a new excitement to the Nissan portfolio with a broader range of affordable and innovative performance models for more markets and more people,” revealed Nissan-Renault chief Carlos Ghosn.
Development work is now underway for the GT-R Nismo however it’s too early for details to be released.
As part of the announcement Nissan confirmed the Nismo factory team will return to the Le mans 24-hour race in 2014 with a new vehicle showcasing electric technology. And from this year, Nismo is ramping-up its efforts in the GT3 and Super GT Series as well as the FIA GT Series and Blancpain Endurance series…and of course Australian V8 Supercar Racing with the four-car Altima V8 team.
