It does look good, that’s the first reaction we have to seeing Jeep’s new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk – images which, apprently, has been prematurely exposed to the ever-hungry motoring press – but these images are just about everything we have to go on. No details follow. You’ve been warned.
We can safely assume, that unlike the recently unveiled Jeep Trailcat concept, this does not (sadly) have that 707hp (527kW) supercharged V8 from the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. Jeep will hopefully reserve that for a possible future variant that looks a lot less tame than this Cherokee Trailhawk, most likely to be the Trackhawk.
Based on looks alone, Jeep seems to have taken a lot of inspiration from their Cherokee Trailhawk special editions that they showed off at the 2013 Jeep Easter Safari in Moab, Utah. That is a good thing, especially so because they’ve seemed to strike a great balance between aggressive cues with more sedate SUV styling. Just enough edge, if you ask us.
Inside, we can see Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system take centre stage but can’t tell whether any signifcant updates have been applied. There’s also some a lot of sporty red stitching applied to the upholstery and door paneling, otherwise its typical WK2 Cherokee. The seats also seem to be lined in what looks like Alcantara or some other type of suede-like material.
It’s certainly interesting to see how Jeep is moving to more deeply into their ‘go-anywhere with force niche’ but with each new model there’s a sense of class and luxury associated with their cars, at least more so.
Having said that, we’ll have to wait until Jeep comes clean about these images and furnishes them the information behind what we can now see.
