And a top speed north of 400km/h.
American hypercar makers Hennessey have finally dropped salient details on its brand-new Venom F5, the fastest car that the company’s ever made, that bears intention to be the fastest car in the world, period. Details on the Venom F5 have been scant since its introduction, but after having made a public debut at Monterey Car Week, its makers have been a little more forthcoming about some key statistics.
Amidship sits a 7.6-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, developed closely with Pennzoil and Shell, and is rated to produce “more than” 1,193kW of power, as well as 1,762Nm of torque. The company was keen to point out that the Venom F5 is capable of hitting 299km/h in less than 10-seconds from rest, while 401km/h would be achieved in less than 30-seconds. Curiously, they didn’t talk about a century sprint times.
The Venom F5 will make a bid to be the fastest car in the world, with Hennessy claiming that it’ll be able to top 301mph (or 484km/h). It’s not the only upstart chasing this though, as the SSC Tuatara is also making similar claims to take away the fastest-car crown from the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which presently holds the record at 457km/h. And for those wondering, Bugatti still hasn’t rated the top-speed of the Chiron.
The V8 was designed to be an absolute monster from the get-go, and is machined from a single, solid billet of aluminium. The 8 cylinder sleeves are made of steel to cope with the tolerances needed for such a powerful engine, while the twin-turbos feature precision ball bearings with billet compressor wheels, while the headers are also steel like the cylinder sleeves, and the engine also features a dry-sump oiling system.
15 of the 24 planned Venom F5s are spoken for, which is no surprise given its retail price of ‘just’ US$1.6-million (or about $2.18-million at the time of writing). With 9 more cars still up for grabs, the super-wealthy who may be lamenting their lost opportunity of securing a $7.8-million Bugatti Divo could look to Hennessey instead. We reckon it’d be well worth it.
