BMW North America and GoPro have announced the availability of the first mass-produced integration of a GoPro camera with in-car infotainment systems.
Starting in July, the integration will be functional on all model year 2012 and later BMW Group vehicles equipped with the BMW Apps of Mini Connected option when used with a Wi-Fi equipped GoPro camera.
The updated GoPro App is now available for free in the iTunes Store https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/gopro-app/id561350520
The BMW owner’s Wi=Fi equipped GoPro camera (HERO3+ and later) communicates with the GoPro App installed on the owner’s iPhone 4 or later which must be connected to the vehicle either through the iPhone USB cable or the BMW Accessory snap-in adaptor for iPhone.
You access the App through the BMW ConnectedDrive or Mini Connected menu displayed on the car’s central screen.
SoundS brilliant and if the system comes to Australia, you can bet the wailing from red light camera operators (particularly in NSW and Victoria) will be loud.
Seems to be sweet revenge to us - finally, long-suffering motorists (well BMW owners at least) will have technology to challenge these outrageous money-grabbing cameras masked as road safety which fleece hundreds of thousands of motorists each year and most of the dollars go into general revenue rather than building better roads.
