Making waves at the Geneva Motor Show was Volkswagen’s sporty Amarok ute concept called the ‘Canyon’ (the name used because the tricked-up ute appeals to freestyle kayakers).
The radical Amarok uses a body lift kit and large off-road tyres to stand 85mm taller than standard. Retractable tread plates ease entry for driver and passengers.
Roof-mounted lights provide extra night vision off the beaten track and the rear lights gets a smoked treatment.
Wheel arches are flared by 35mm to accommodate the large wheels and 275/65 R18 tyres.
The cargo area gets a roof bar and other storage items to transport two kayaks while inside are two-tone leather seats and orange-red accents to match the sporty exterior paint treatment.
Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine delivering 132kW/400Nm and driving all four wheels via Volkswagen’s 4MOTION system.
