Alfa Romeo’s long-awaited 4C two-seat sports car has been confirmed for its global debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month ahead of sales from next year. Alfa’s new sports car is being manufactured at the Maserati plant in Modena, Italy.

Significantly for the Italian brand, the 4C will spearhead its return to the North American market.

The 4C nomenclature reflects the naming of iconic Alfa racers from the past – the 6C and 8C for example – and also the fact that the compact, lightweight two-seaters returns an impressive weight/power ratio of 4kg/HP.

Powered by Alfa’s 1750 turbocharged petrol engine, driving the rear wheels, the 4C makes use of carbon fibre and aluminium to minimize its weight. And it’s compact – under4.0-metrs in length, a wheelbase of 2.4-metres and standing just 118cm tall.

Drive is via Alfa’s twin-clutch automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle-shifters for manual changes.

And there’s a four-mode adaptive drive system headed by a ‘Race’ setting (the others are ‘Dynamic’, ‘Natural’ and ‘All-Weather’).

No word yet on Australian plans.
