Audi unveiled its all-new Q2 compact SUV in Geneva and the Ingolstadt, Germany brand says there are more SUVs on the way.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the current Q3, Q5 and just-launched Q7, it’s just that Audi wants a slice of the compact SUV action currently garnered by BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA.
As we can see, the all-new Q2 represents a radical departure for Audi styling with strong character lines and yet another version of the ‘Single Frame’ grille.
Inside is the expected armada of Audi technology including, in range-topping models, Audi’s ‘Virtual Cockpit’ with its 12.3-inch digital display replacing the conventional instruments in front of the driver (our favourite display option is the full-size satellite navigation map – a head-up display shows essentials like the speedometer on the windscreen).
In Europe, entry to the Audi Q2 lineup will be via a front-drive model powered by either the Volkswagen Group’s remarkable 86kW three-cylinder turbocharged 1.0-litre engine or a 111kW turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder.
Further up-scale there is a Quattro model employing the 143kW turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.
Diesel alternatives will come in either 1.6-litre (86kW) and a couple of 2.0-litre versions (111kW and 143kW).
No word yet on Australian plans.
