Another Australian motoring icon will bite the dust later this year when Ford Australia winds-up production of the Falcon wagon.
The increasing popularity of SUVs – like Ford’s excellent locally produced Territory and its Escape – has seen wagon sales dwindling for some years.
But wagon enthusiasts will be able to buy the superb Ford Mondeo wagon with a diesel engine from the third quarter of this year. Imported from Germany and boasting the abundant technology and safety features, the Mondeo is a favourite of the Car Showroom team.
Currently the Mondeo wagon is only sold with the 118kW/208Nm, 2.3-litre petrol engine in both LX ($32,990) and Zetec ($37,990) model grades
So while there will understandably be some emotional responses to the end of local Falcon wagon production, this should not overshadow the superb credentials of the Mondeo.
Ford will reveal pricing and specification of the diesel-powered Mondeo wagon closer to its third quarter introduction. With fleet buyers an important consideration, we expect an entry price below the current Falcon wagon’s $41,290.
