The 2018 Ford GT, technically in its second generation though the Blue Oval themselves rarely refers to it as such, is a car that doesn’t really need any introduction nor much more added visual drama, what with its very low and wide stance as well as its unique flying buttresses.

However, to commemorate the original Ford GT40 racing car, specifically the Mark IV driven by Dan Gurney and A.J Foyt at the 1967 Le Mans, Ford has outfitted it with unique interior and exterior colour themes as well as an exclusive wheel finish.

These 2018 Ford GTs, called the 67’ Heritage, will be produced in limited and undisclosed quantities through next year. It features a gloss-finish Race Red exterior with white stripes and exposed carbon fibre highlights The hood and door graphics are called Frozen White No.1, fittingly.

Meanwhile, the alloys are a set of 20-inch single-piece forged aluminium wheels and given a silver satin clear coat (to match the silver door mirrors) with black lug nuts that only slightly obstruct the special red brake callipers.

Inside, there are new leather trimming for the fixed carbon fibre seats, accented with red stitching that are also carried over to the steering wheel . Parts of the dashboard, instrument panel, door register bezels, and x-brace are given a satin dark stainless appliqué, complementing the anodised grey paddle shifters and seat belt webbing. Finishing off the unique cabin treatment are exposed matte carbon fibre door sills, air register pods and centre console.

“The first Heritage edition car was a huge success, honoring our history with a modern interpretation of the Le Mans winner,” said Garen Nicoghosian, exterior design manager for the car. “Continuing with a 2018 Ford GT based on the winning GT40 Mark IV race car was simply something we needed to do.”

David Pericak, global director of Ford Performance, also chimed in on this special edition of the GT: “In creating a worthy successor to the 2017 Heritage edition, we logically looked at our next historic Le Mans victory with the all-American team of Dan Gurney and A.J. Foyt. The 2018 Ford GT ’67 Heritage edition pays homage to that win, with a modern take on one of the most important vehicles in Ford’s storied history of racing.”
