A new 1.5-litre Duratec engine, freshened looks and extra equipment highlight Ford’s updated Fiesta (WZ model) compact. Prices are up a smidge but, considering the extras, the Fiesta remains a good buy – definitely a Car Showroom favourite in the compact category.
Styling changes are noticeable on the outside and inside are new fabrics.
Kicking-off the new Ford Fiesta range is the Ambiente model while next-up is the Trend version. Both score Ford’s new 1.5-litre Duratec engine (replacing the previous 1.6-litre powerplant) which is good for 83kW/140Nm. The new 1.5-litre engine beats the 1.6-litre for fuel consumption – down to 5.8l/100kms (combined cycle).
Ford will add the sporty ST model to the Fiesta lineup in a few weeks and Car Showroom will be part of the national media launch so check back for our driving impressions.
On the specifications front, the Trend version advances over the Ambiente with front fog-lights and new-design 15-inch alloy wheels.
Other additions include the Ford SYNC infotainment system with hands-free, voice activated connectivity including Bluetooth hands-free and music streaming. Cruise control with steering wheel controls is standard, there’s a new three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel, six-speaker audio, power windows and air-conditioning.
Ford’s globally acclaimed 92kW/170Nm 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine exclusively powers the new Fiesta Sport model which adds 16-inch alloy wheels, front and rear spoilers as well as leather sports seats and an eight-speaker Sony audio system with a 4.2-inch colour TFT screen.
Ford Fiesta Sport hits local showrooms in December.
