Ford Focus RS Mountune Upgrade Takes Power To 276kW

It’s doubtful that a proud new owner of a Ford Focus RS will reach the conclusion that the car lacks power. But just in case there is someone out there that does, a new engine upgrade from Mountune (or, officially, Ford Performance by Mountune) will increase power and torque figures.

The turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder EcoBoost engine will now produce 276kW and 510Nm (max on overboost) after the said upgrade which – best part – will take just around an hour and a half to complete and will keep your valuable warranty completely untouched.

The upgrade can be performed by a certified Mountune-appointed Ford dealer and will cost £899 for customers in the U.K which translate to around $1,543 AUD. That is, if and when Ford Performance chooses to make it available to Down Under.

The upgrade itself centres around an ECU retune, asking more from the engine at the possible expense of fuel consumption. To facilitate the extra load, the upgrade also includes the installation of a high-performance air filter, bespoke alloy crossover duct, and an upgraded air re-circulation valve.

Once the extra performance has been endowed upon the Focus RS, the extra power and torque means a blistering 4.5-second dash to 100km/h from rest for the hot hatch. A figure which Ford proudly boasts is quicker than a Porsche 911 Carrera costing twice as much.

“Ford has a proud history of working with Mountune to unleash even more power from our hot hatchbacks for dedicated performance enthusiasts,” said Tyrone Johnson, vehicle engineering manager, Ford Performance. “Boosting power to 375 PS launches the already class-leading Focus RS even further ahead of the field.”
