Ford Australia will be giving buyers more choice with the September arrival of the Ranger 4x4 XLS Special Edition, starting at $49,990 or $2,500 more than the XLS but comes with as much as $4,900 worth of Ford Genuine Factory-Fitted Accessories.
The arrival of the Ranger XLS comes at a time where local sales of the Ford pick-up have increased, capturing a 21.2 percent share of the segment and narrows the gap between the Ranger and Toyota’s HiLux by just 172 units.
As the name would suggest, the XLS Special Edition is based on the Ranger 4x4 XLS, but adds more exterior visual drama with the fitment of a sports bar, tow bar (which increases towing capacity to 3500kg), side steps, and finally bed and tailgate liners.
While the $49,990 price for the Ranger XLS Special Edition applies to units with a manual transmission, a six-speed automatic can be had for $52,190 - also a $2,500 step up from the automatic Ranger 4x4 XLS upon which it is based.
“Already considered one of the most capable and desirable pick-up trucks on the market, we expect the Ranger 4x4 XLS Special Edition will help us narrow the gap to Toyota even further, with Ranger 4x4 now only 172 units behind the Hilux 4x4 year-to-date,” said Graeme Whickman, CEO and President, Ford of Australia.
