NCAP barrier testing originated in North America so we should expect Jeep models to perform well – and that’s just what happened in the latest Australian version ANCAP test of the Patriot which scored the maximum five-star rating.
The local test used a Jeep Patriot 4x2 and the Patriot now joins the Jeep Cherokee in posting that five star result.
Unfortunately the result was not so good when ANCAP tested the Great Wall Motors V200 4x4 single cab ute which posted a three-star result.
The three-star V200 joins the two-star V240 in being two Great Wall models which ANCAP says provide inferior levels of occupant protection.
Commenting on the Great Wall result, ANCAP said while price is a factor in new car purchases, low prices shouldn’t mean inferior occupant protection.
Take the freshly-minted five-star ANCAP Patriot.
“The results prove price doesn’t have to be a barrier to safety with the five-star Jeep Patriot available for just $25,500,” revealed Fiat Chrysler Australia boss Veronica Johns. “The ANCAP rating, and similarly impressive crash-test results around the world area direct result of Jeep’s focus on driver and passenger safety"
