Prolific automotive designer Henrik Fisker, now at the helm of of Fisker Inc, has teased a new SUV model that’s said to go head-to-head with Tesla’s recently-announced Model Y. Fisker is set to launch its three-way product offensive in 2021, with this SUV as the driving force of that strategy. The teased SUV will be the first car launched by the new company it seems, as the previously-announced EMotion saloon has been pushed back due to technical hurdles.

The Fisker SUV doesn’t yet have a name, but the company was rather forthcoming with details. It’ll come with an 80kWh battery pack as standard giving it a range of about 480km (300mi), which means that its base model will easily outdo the entry-level Tesla Model Ys. Additionally, all-wheel drive is standard thanks to a dual-motor setup, ensuring maximum grip & performance.

Further, Fisker claims that the new SUV will offer some kind of convertible/open-able top, which “with a touch of a button, an extended open-air atmosphere will be made possible without compromising the rugged & safe structural integrity of an SUV.” Sounds cool, frankly.

Henrik Fisker has confirmed that his company is looking for production sites within the United States, with multiple options being considered. Once that’s been locked-down, the company will get to producing developmental prototypes towards the end of this year.
