VIN 001 marks the (second?) beginning of Honda’s journey in the supercar maker.
It’s a momentous time for Honda as the first example of their ambitious supercar project to build the new and advanced NSX has finally rolled off the production line at the US factory in Marysville, Ohio – Acura’s Performance Manufacturing Centre (PMC).
The first production NSX (VIN 001) proudly exhibits the Valencia red pearlescent paint finish that we’ve seen many a pre-production version wear. Its new owner, Rick Hendrick, drove the car off the production line, with the car specified with interwoven wheels, carbon ceramic brake rotors, leather and Alcantara interior trim and carbon fibre upgrades including the engine cover, roof, and rear decklid spoiler.
Hendricks is the owner of Hendricks Motorsports became the first new NSX owner after putting in a 1.2 million US Dollar bid for the privilege at an auction in January, with all proceeds from the sale going to two prominent US-based children’s charities.
In a statement, Clement D'Souza, engineering project leader for the NSX, said: "Today marks the realization of a big dream here at the PMC and the culmination of more than 30 years of manufacturing experience and expertise here in Ohio. Our world class team of expert technicians, through their passion, has realized major innovations in the design and manufacturing of a next-generation Acura supercar that truly delivers incredible precision-crafted performance."
The Honda NSX is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 (mated to 9-speed dual-clutch transmission) that’s augmented by three electric motors that delivers a combined output of 427kW and 550Nm delivered to all four wheels.
