Jaguar is embarking on a project to build brand-new versions of the six lightweight E-Type sports cars which were never completed.
The all-aluminium cars will be the chassis numbers of the six cars which did not see light of day back in 1963.
Jaguar says construction of the six remaining ‘Special GT E-Type’ cars will produce perfect reproductions and exact specifications of the 12 produced in 1963.
Each will be hand-made by Jaguar’s expert craftsmen – including the 3.8-litre straight-six engines.
Built for racing, the ‘Special GT E-Type’ ran an all-aluminium body and engine block, was scant on interior trim and featured other weight-saving measures such as hand-operated side windows – all-up around 114kgs was pared from the weight of a standard E-Type.
While full details won’t be released until later, established Jaguar collectors, especially those with historic racing cars, will be given priority in purchasing these six remarkable cars.
Further proof of why some experts have recently labelled Jaguar as: ‘the world’s most interesting car company’.
