And it’ll pack more punch than a Pista.

It’s been confirmed that fabled Italian performance marque Ferrari will be launching a V8, mid-engined, mild-hybrid supercar later this year, set to replace the highly-regarded 488 GTB with a new model that’s purportedly more potent than the 488 Pista.

This was confirmed by Ferrari boss Louis Camilleri in an earnings call at the end of January, which was reportedly heard by industry magazine Automotive News. It’ll arrive as the flagship of Ferrari’s supercar range (below the hypercars like the LaFerrari and V12 grand-tourers), and arrive before the year is up.

It’s said that the car won’t be making a showing at the upcoming Geneva autoshow, rather at its own specific event later in 2019. Camilleri also told analysts in the call that the V8 hybrid supercar will have a “regular lifecycle” rather than be a limited-run model, with first deliveries marked for early-2020.

The new car is also set to benefit from a second-generation Ferrari hybrid system, an evolution of the kinetic energy recovery system (or KERS) that was originally developed for Formula 1 before being applied to the V12 LaFerrari. While Camilleri didn’t say it, insiders in Maranello said that outputs above 600kW and 1,000Nm could be expected. So specified, the new V8 Ferrari could be able to hit 100km/h in 2.5-seconds, and hit 200km/h in just 7.5-seconds.

Camilleri also spoke about the upcoming Purosangue SUV, saying that customer reaction to previews were very positive. “It’s a segment that’s clearly growing,” he said, adding that “alot of our customers would love to have a Purosangue to use on a daily basis.”

So would we, Mr. Camilleri. So would we.
