Ferrari’s four-seater GT shooting brake comes back stronger in the GTC4Lusso, taking the FF formula to the next level.

Ferrari’s revised and renamed four-seat grand tourer has made its Australian debut at a special event in Sydney. The GTC4Lusso succeeds the Ferrari FF but doesn’t necessarily give an impression that it’s an all-new car. It isn’t.

Rather, Ferrari has chosen to refine what already was a winning package but revise it to have it appeal to a broader audience while fixing some of the pain points of the previous car. It’s also cheaper than the FF at $578,888. That’s roughly $46,000 slashed from cost to own Ferrari’s V12 four-seat tourer.

For most intents and purposes, this is still the FF, but the name now better represents what the car is. What did remain is the general shape and layout. Some new side sills have been added, there’s new wheels, altered aero, tail lights, and an overall more aggressive exterior compared to the FF.

Placed up front but mounted behind the front axle sits the 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine carried over from the FF, but now producing 21kW and 14Nm more at 507kW and 697Nm, achieved through a higher compression ratio of 13.5:1

It sends power through the same 7-speed double-clutch automatic co-developed by Getrag to all four wheels through Ferrari’s updated 4RM (now called 4RM Evo) all-wheel drive system. The GTC4Lusso also has rear-wheel steering lifted from the system used in the Ferrari F12 tdf.

The interior is where Ferrari focused the majority of their efforts, making it more rounded as a cruiser. Particularly, they’ve upgraded the infotainment system to a 10.2-inch touchscreen and have worked on the user experience and interface.

Ferrari is still gunning at the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin Rapide with the GTC4 Lusso, and focusing on passenger comfort and interior quality will certainly help in closing that gap.
