Together in electric dreams.
Faraday Future, the ‘disruptive’ electric car startup that is trying to ‘reformat’ the world, has announced that the former head of BMW’s ‘i’ electric vehicle division will be joining the team at FF. Ulrich Kranz leaves BMW after a career with them spanning three decades, and we’re sure he’s looking forward to his new digs in sunny California.
In a Q&A session to welcome Kranz to the company, he explained why he jumped aboard.
“It was pretty easy for me. FF has the right people, the right vision, and a very innovative product. That’s why I’m here. The short-term goal is to get the FF91 on the road. We will stress this goal 100-times every day. We want to show the world that FF is able to produce a high-quality vehicle that is more than an electric car.” – Ulrich Kranz, Chief Technology Officer, Faraday Future
The company is naturally very excited about enlisting their new CTO, saying that he arrives “at a pivotal moment in the development of the FF91.” Interestingly, Kranz leaves BMW amid reports that BMW is cutting back on plans with its ‘i’ division, most notably resulting in the axing of a new model that would have sat alongside the 3-Series (and would have taken on Tesla’s Model 3).
The news of FF’s new CTO also comes off the back of announcements that the company has pulled the brakes on its US$1bil factory in Nevada, and further news that Chinese billionaire Jia Yueting, FF’s main backer, has had his assets frozen by Chinese courts. Faraday Future is presently trying to find alternative funding as it pushes forward with the FF91 project.
While we remain highly skeptical of Faraday Future and its ambitious plans to reset reality, we must admit that they’re looking a little more credible now with their new CTO. Stay tuned to CarShowroom for more details as they come.
